Recently, Ta’dib International Foundation, RZS-CASIS of UTM together with Raja Zarith Sofiah of Johor Foundation and in partnership with QSR Brands and the World Trade Centre (Kuala Lumpur) was honoured to have been given the opportunity to co-organise an inaugural lecture by The Honourable Tan Sri Professor Dr Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas in conjunction with the launching ceremony of his latest book, Islām: The Covenants Fulfilled. The event was held at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur on the afternoon of 29th July 2023.
The event was very successful and received an extraordinary response as it was attended by 1400 people, consisting of Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, royal family, national leaders, top government management, UTM and Ta'dib International Foundation, scholars, professionals, domestic and foreign students.
In his lecture, Professor al-Attas expounded a couple of important points in his book, Islam: The Covenants Fulfilled. Initially, he explained the subtleties of understanding the relationship between the soul and the body of a human being. He then elucidated the historical progression of revealed religion culminating in Islam.
While the lecture was relatively brief due to time constraint, it was full of insight and inspiration.
Following that, this Extempore Speech by YM Tan Sri Prof. al-Attas is a continuation of the previous lecture to further explain the contents of the book.

Ideally, to ensure a smooth process, buying a ticket beforehand is much more advisable. However, if due to certain circumstances and you are not able to reserve online, we will not reject any walk ins depending on seat availability.

Children that require seatings without confirmed registrations will not be admitted, as seats are assigned per registration. No infants and toddlers allowed at the Front and Balcony seats. Please find a designated seat at the center near a door for easy exit. Any noise coming from infants and toddlers during the lecture will be asked to step outside immediately to calm them down. Please note that there will be no childcare service or mothers’ room provided for this event. However, there are plenty of big spaces outside of the hall should you bring a help to keep an eye on them.

The event follows a semi-formal dress code. We recommend dressing in appropriate attire to maintain a respectful atmosphere. Other dignitaries and scholars will also be in attendance.

We request that participants refrain from seeking the signature of Tan Sri Prof Al-Attas as there will not be any meet and greet session due to a past injury, the physical condition, and age of Prof. Al-Attas. Your kind understanding is appreciated.

If you have access to the book, do try to read it beforehand. Additionally, to prepare for the lecture by Prof. Al-Attas, the same requirements apply as in the Muslim tradition of learning: right intention, sincerity, patience, an open mind and heart, time spent in the company of right individuals to understand the subject, and so forth, as outlined by earlier Muslim scholars.
Do note that the organisers are involved in several programmes to facilitate anyone sincerely interested in learning about the writings of Prof al-Attas in a systematic manner. One such avenue is the WISE Summer School, a week-long intensive programme (in English) incorporating lectures, discussion sessions, site visits and more.

Light refreshments (high tea) will be served after the Special Lecture by Prof al-Attas. Please prepare/eat your dinner before you come to the lecture. Food and Drinks are prohibited in the lecture hall. There will also be coffee booths sold during the event. The Special Lecture by SMN al-Attas on The Covenants Fulfilled will be held at Dewan Tunku Canselor (DTC), Universiti Malaya (UM), in Kuala Lumpur.

As a global scholar Professor Al-Attas has lectured throughout the world and written more than thirty books and many articles on Islam in the fields of comparative philosophy, theology, metaphysics, religion, history, language, literature, epistemology, and education. The global influence of his ideas in contemporary times is indicated by the fact that some of his works written in English have been translated into more than fifteen major European and Asian languages.
At the age of 92, the esteemed scholar has completed yet another seminal book to the world of scholarship and for the attention of the global Muslim community.Originally written in long-hand, like all of his books, Professor Al-Attas has devoted the last several years of his life to addressing a pertinent issue confronting the learned among the Muslims worldwide.
Prof Al-Attas founded the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization Malaysia (ISTAC), a world-class learned institution, where he taught and collected the unique multilingual library comprising more than one hundred and forty thousand volumes of rare books and manuscripts. For his outstanding creative and effective contributions in the various fields of Islamic thought and civilization, as well as his contributions to contemporary thought on education and epistemology, he received many distinguished awards of recognition and acknowledgement from learned and scientific institutions and societies in Europe, America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
